HBWN – May/June Newsletter

Welcome to your monthly update on YOUR network! We have been delighted by the continuing growth in membership numbers over the past few months since renewals commenced. So many of our members have indicated interest in being more involved in our events. We appreciate your keenness to assist! One of the key things members can do is to be one of the ‘meeters and greeters’ at our functions. This not only makes new attendees feel welcome, but it also increases your networking on the night.

May Event Review

We had a wonderful evening seeing the new fashion for Winter, and learning some helpful styling tips from Westfield Kotara’s Stylist, Kristy Pryjma. A big thank you goes to our ‘transformed’ Models, members Amber Ling, Renae Korsman and Narelle Redman. Click here for images

We were also treated to some creative yet practical marketing ideas from our sponsor Janelle Gerard, Design Change. Janelle had us all entertained with her design dos and don’ts.  Our Minute on Your Business presenter was Charlotte Thaarup-Owen from Creative Transformations, who encouraged us to join her on an upcoming Retreat in Bali.  For more information on any of these members and their services please check out their websites (see their details in our members section of www.HBWN.org.au).

June Event – Challenges of Leadership – Celebrating the Year of Women in Local Government

Local Government is a sizable employer of women and this year those women are being acknowledged nationally. This month, we highlighted the achievements of three local women who hold senior positions in our Regions Councils: Lindy Hyam - General Manager, Newcastle City Council; Amanda Colbey – Director Operations, Lake Macquarie City Council and Clare Dunnicliff – Executive Manager Human Resources, Maitland City Council.  They shared their experiences and providee tips to women wanting to enhance their leadership skills.

Member News – Congratulations Natalie!

Natalie Ebrill, Baby Sleep Consultant from Sleep and Settle has been asked my the expat mothers of Hong Kong to come over and run sleep seminars for newborns to 1 year olds and 1-5 year olds over three days and “give them their life back!”.  A lot of expat parents have partners working long hours and they don’t have family support, being overseas so they are begging her to come over. The seminars are booked out! Local businesses are very excited and handing out flyers to all their clients.

A local magazine Inside db (Inside Discovery Bay) is running one of Natalie’s articles and promoting the seminars. Another local parenting website already offers her articles to their parents and is promoting the seminars on the front page. International sales and consultations have increased to Hong Kong and as a result she is turning my Sleeping Baby System into a book for easy exporting.

“Girls can do anything!”

Member News - Great idea Anne Bunt!

HBWN member Anne Bunt has teamed up with Janelle Sedgwick (owner of SEKT Hair and Body in Maitland) to present a series of Positive Psychology Well-being Seminars and Workshops at her premises throughout 2010.  Anne thought where better to educate women about how to increase life satisfaction, enhance well-being ,fulfill their potential and feel good on the inside than where they go to look good on the outside.  For more information call Anne on 0418 230 706

Networking tip #

Remember to smile when you approach or greet people at networking events – tell your face you are happy to be there even if you are nervous! First impressions take only between 2 and 7 seconds so make yours a good one…

Thought for the month

Life can only be understood by looking backward but must be lived by looking forward.

Have a successful month!
